๐ŸŽ„ Christmas Camp at Lochgoilhead: A Weekend of Adventure, Challenge and New Beginnings

Date: 30th Nov 2025 Author: Richard Murray

This weekend, our Scouts headed to Scout Adventures Lochgoilhead for our annual Christmas Camp โ€” and what a weekend it was! Set against a backdrop of crisp winter skies, frosty hills, and stunning lochside views, our young people embraced every challenge, every laugh, and every opportunity to push themselves further.

๐Ÿ›ถ Making a Splash on the Loch

Sunday brought a picture-perfect winterโ€™s morning: bright sunshine glistening off the frozen shoreline, steam rising from the loch, and Scouts eager for action. The group took to the water for canoeing, learning new skills, building confidence, and working in perfect unison. For some, it was their first time paddling; for others, a chance to shine. Either way, every canoe returned full of smiles and stories.

๐Ÿง— Conquering the Gladiator Challenge

After drying off, our next mission was the Gladiator Challenge โ€” a towering obstacle constructed with ropes, logs and suspended platforms. Equipped with helmets, harnesses, and a massive dose of courage, our Scouts climbed, balanced, and scrambled their way to the top. Cheers, encouragement, and a few nervous giggles could be heard across the site, proving once again that bravery doesnโ€™t always look the same โ€” but it always counts.

๐Ÿš€ A Weekend Packed with Skills and Fun

Across the weekend, Scouts also took part in:

Raft Building โ€” testing knots, teamwork, and resilience (and occasionally getting very wet!)

All Aboard Climbing โ€” where balance and trust were the keys to success

Pioneering โ€” bringing ideas to life with rope, poles, imagination, and determination

Christmas Disco & Movie Night โ€” because no camp is complete without a bit of festive fun!

These activities didnโ€™t just build skills โ€” they built friendships, confidence, and the kind of memories young people carry long after the tents are packed away and the mud has been washed off.

๐Ÿ’š Welcoming New Scouts

One of the most meaningful moments of the camp came at the lochโ€™s edge. With the mountains behind us and the water at our feet, we officially invested three new Scouts into the group. Surrounded by their peers, leaders, and nature itself, they made their Promise and joined our worldwide family. For them โ€” and for us โ€” it was a moment we will never forget.

โญ What Camp Really Gave Us

Christmas Camp wasnโ€™t just a weekend away. It was:

A chance to try something new

A moment to step outside comfort zones

A reminder of what young people can achieve when theyโ€™re supported and believed in

Proof that adventure isnโ€™t found on a map โ€” itโ€™s found in us

This is what adventure feels like.
